Blue Angels Finish Tenth

Blue Angels Finish Tenth

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Today at the Tom Barry invitational, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished tenth out of 12 teams in the field. Carrol finished first place at the event and had three of the top five runners in the race including first place Amanda Jones who finished five kilometers in 19:20.5.

This year's Blue Angels have four returns from last year's team. One addition MMU made in the offseason was for freshman runner Ellie McMeeken from West Bend, Wis. In her first collegiate meet, the youngster crossed the finish line before any of her teammates. McMeeken finished with a 23:35.4 time and a 47th place finish.

As most teams like to run as close together, as they can without slowing their teammates down, the Blue Angels took that idea to heart at the Tom Barry Invite. Three of the four remaining Blue Angels on the track finished within one minute after McMeeken.

Daniela Torres (Sr./West Allis, Wis.) finished with her best collegiate five-kilometer race on record with a 24:01.3 for 51st place. Sophomore Emily Green (So./Waukesha, Wis.) crossed the line at 24:20.5, two seconds later, Miranda Fluegge (Jr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) crossed and took 55th place.

Johnelle Suto (Jr./Enterprise, Ore.) rounded out the team scoring with a 31:01.8 finish for 76th place.

After today's race, the Blue Angels will have a week to prepare for the Ken Weidt Classic on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin. Scenic Mequon, Wis. will play host to the annual meet that begins at 11:00 am. For updates and news on the Blue Angels, go to MtMaryAthletics.com.
