Blue Angels finish Ninth at Classic

MEQUON, WIS. – The Ken Weidt Classic took place today on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin. The Mount Mary University team took ninth place of the 11 teams racing in the meet. Carleton took first place in team scoring while also sending the first four runners across the finish line. Clara Mayfield took home first place finishing with a 22:38.6 time.

For the first time in her collegiate career, senior Daniela Torres led the Blue Angels in a meet. Torres set her collegiate record at a 6-kilometer race with a 28:29.1 finishing time and 37th place. That running a meter every 4 minutes and 45 seconds.

Moments later, newcomer to the Blue Angels, Ellie McMeeken crossed the finish line for 38th place. The freshman from West Bend, Wis. led MMU last week in their season opener in Green Bay. On the 6-k course, McMeeken kept pace and finished with a 28:36.1 time.

Emily Green (So./Waukesha, Wis.) was the next Blue Angel to finish. Green has steadily cut her times, and in her first six-kilometer race, the sophomore ended with a 30:08.3. Averaging just over five minutes per kilometer, Green placed 49th overall.

Miranda Fluegge (Jr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Johnelle Suto (Jr./Enterprise, Ore.) rounded out the team scoring for the Blue Angels. Fluegge placed 54th with a 31:30.0 time. Teammate Johnelle Suto crossed the finishing line at 33:06.4.

After today's race at Concordia Wisconsin, the Blue Angels will take a few extra days to prepare for their annual spot in the Lucian Rosa Invitational. The race on the campus of UW-Parkside hosts cross country programs from all over the country spanning over all three divisions of the NCAA.
