Blue Angels Head to Lucian Rosa Invite

KENOSHA, Wis. -- Today at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished eighth in team scoring. Winona State of NCAA Division II won the race in overall team scoring. UW-Parkside runner Amanda Johnson finished first in the six-kilometer race with a final time of 22:40.0.

The Blue Angels have seen a number of new faces take the lead this season. One new, yet already familiar runner Ellie McMeeken (Fr./West Bend, Wis.) led the way for the MMU at UW-Parkside's campus. The beautiful, yet mushy track played host to 100 runners in today's contest. McMeeken placed 68th overall with a 28:32.2 finishing time.

Teammate Emily Green (So./Waukesha, Wis.) was mere paces behind McMeeken in today's event. The sophomore runner crossed the timeline at 28:58.4 for 71st place in the meet.

Miranda Fluegge (Jr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was the next Blue Angel to cross the finish line. Fluegge has been a consistent runner for MMU over the years, and today, she held the middle of the pack. Fluegge finished with a 30:58.0 on the six-kilometer track.

Rounding out the placing for the Blue Angels, Johnelle Suto (Jr./Enterprise, Ore.) placed 90th with a 32:08.3 time. And for the first collegiate race of her career, Brianna Valdez (Jr./Thornton, Colo.) finished with a 36:52.8 on her way to 98th place.

The Blue Angels will return to the track next week when they head to Greenfield, Wis. for the annual Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. The race is set for Sat. Oct. 5 with an 11:00 pm starting time. Check out MtMaryAthletics.com for news, final times and updates for the Blue Angels.
