Jacquez Weathers Storms

Jacquez Weathers Storms

MILWAUKEE – Halfway through the season, the Mount Mary University softball team has battled inclement weather as temperatures and rain destroyed their schedule week after week. In a game like softball which is focused on its routine and consistency, the task seems even harder with the current circumstances. Despite the interruptions, Haley Jacquez (So./Oakley, Calif.) has trudged her way through the muck to lead her squad in multiple categories and become the next Blue Angels Spotlight Player.

Last week, the Blue Angels were able to get a doubleheader in between storms. In the two contests against Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference No. 3 ranked Benedictine University (14-9, 5-1), Jacquez was able to reach base four times going 2-of-3 from the plate with two walks.

The consistency of the sophomore second basemen on both sides of the field has shined through all season long. While Jacquez leads the Blue Angels in batting average (.296) and on-base percentage (.387), she is also second on her team in fielding percentage at .967 and has only one fielding error on the season.

This upcoming week has three doubleheaders scheduled for the Blue Angels, all on the road. Weather.com shows promise for warmer weather this weekend, hopefully in time for a full slate of softball beginning Thu. Apr. 19 against Rockford University (4-20).
