Helping Hand

MILWAUKEE – The 2018-19 athletic season is coming to a close and in the final rendition of the year, Taylor Hienbuecher (Fr./Sycamore, Ill.) is the next Blue Angels Spotlight Player. The young infielder/catcher has been helping her team at the plate all season long in her first collegiate season.

Hienbuecher has been a consistent bat for the Blue Angels this season. This late in the season, Hienbuecher is third on her team in a laundry list of offensive categories. Taylor has .323 batting average, .429 on-base percentage, 21 hits, 5 doubles and 12 runs scored: all third on MMU in those categories.

Most recently, Hienbuecher helped her team turnaround and defeat their rival in a 7-4 win last Thursday. After losing 10-2 in five innings the game before, the Blue Angels clawed back late in the fourth inning down 1-0 to take a 3-1 lead with two outs. Hiebuecher stepped into the box with the bases loaded and delivered with a clutch base clearing double which was crucial in the 7-4 win.

The young Blue Angel now sits second on her team in RBIs with 10. While she makes each at-bat count, Hienbuecher is fourth on the team with 65 at-bats, yet has the second fewest strikeouts on her team with four.

The Blue Angels hope to hit the diamond for a pair of doubleheaders early this week. Monday, MMU will head to Wheeling, Ill. to take on Trinity International, then they head north on Tuesday to take on Lawrence University. Check out MtMaryAthletics.com for game times and information.
