Jacquez Leads Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The first Blue Angel Spotlight Player of the 2018-19 season is Haley Jacquez (Jr./Oakley, Calif.) after a weekend packed with events. After playing a combined 36 holes last Friday and Saturday, the junior returned to Blue Angels Soccer Field for a stand out performance in her first collegiate soccer game.

To begin her week of play, Jacquez led her Blue Angels on the links on Friday afternoon against Wisconsin Lutheran College and Concordia Wisconsin. In their home opener, the Mount Mary University golf team had to relocate to Greenfield Park Golf Course due to the rain-soaked Currie Park Golf Course. Unfazed by the last minute change, Jacquez led her team in stroke play with a 125.

Less than 24 hours later, Jacquez led her Blue Angels on the playable, albeit drenched, Currie Park Golf Course. Battling through the soggy conditions, Jacquez again turned in the lowest round for her squad. This time, the junior finished with a 134 to take fourth place in individual scoring against rival Alverno College.

To close out the week, Jacquez headed to the soccer pitch for her first collegiate soccer contest. After a slew of injuries worked through the MMU roster, Jacquez took over as goalkeeper. Using her quick hands and speedy footwork from her years as a middle-infielder on the softball team, the junior made some impressive saves in the goal. After 90 minutes of play, Jacquez registered 27 saves.

Jacquez will have some time to recuperate as her golf team will have the week off from match-play. Jacquez and the soccer team will return to action this Friday as they head to Eureka, Ill. to take on the Red Devils.
