MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University cross country team closed out their regular season last Sunday. Leading the way for the Blue Angels in their season and finale, and nearly all season long, Daniela Torres (Sr./West Allis, Wis.) has been a staple to MMU’s success and has earned the next Blue Angels Spotlight Player.

This season, Torres led the Blue Angels in four of the five events in which she participated. Torres finished her one five-kilometer race of the season at 24:01.3, which was the second fastest at that distance for any Blue Angel in 2019.

Along with her speedy time in the 5k, Torres led each six-kilometer race that she attended this last season. After being only one of two Blue Angels to finish under 30 minutes in the Ken Weidt Classic, Torres also responded to the perpetual cold starting temperatures and wet conditions.

After setting not only her collegiate best time at 27:30.0 at the Warrior Invitational, Torres continued to lead her pack as the fall temperatures turned quickly to winter conditions by mid-October. Torres logged 34th place at the Warrior invite, then finished 49th in the Blue Angels annual visit to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships.

Torres has been a consistent runner for the Blue Angels in her four years of varsity racing at the NCAA level. Each season, Torres was able to cut at least one minute from her previous season’s best six-kilometer times.
