Muskies Over Blue Angels

Muskies Over Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team hosted Lakeland University (3-1-1) for the team's home opener. The Muskies transformed a 1-0 first half lead into a 6-0 victory this morning at Blue Angels Soccer Field.

In her first game of the season, Haley Jacquez (Jr./Oakley, Calif.) received the start at goal keeper due to the laundry list of injuries. The junior has been a leader for both the Blue Angels golf and softball teams for the last few seasons, and stepped right into that role again on the pitch.

As the Muskies fired 22 first half shots at the Blue Angels, Jacquez and her defense were able to keep their opponent to just one goal in the first 45 minutes.

The Blue Angels were able to attack LU with seven shots of their own. Karina Salgado (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) led that charge with five shots of her own, two of which were on goal.

Lakeland continued their attack on MMU's goal for the remaining 45 minutes. With 33 more shots from the Muskies, 24 of which were on goal, LU was able to add five second half goals. Amanda Buckler led that charge with two goals and two assists in the last 45 minutes of play.

In her first collegiate game, Jacquez recorded 27 saves for her team and now sits in second place in the America Collegiate Athletic Association for saves: nine saves behind teammate Hannah Rose (Jr./Jeromesville, Ohio).

After today's contest, the Blue Angels will return to the pitch this Friday at Eureka College. Live stats for Friday night's game will be made available at the virtual home of the Blue Angels, MtMaryAthletics.com.
