Tigers Take Win

WYOMING, Mich. – Host Grace Christian University defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team by a final score of 5-0 today at Velting Field. The third consecutive shutout for the Tigers moves them to a record of 5-5-1 on the season while the Blue Angels move to 1-7.

The action for the game started quickly for the Tigers. Just under two minutes into the contest, Maddie Brown broke passed the Blue Angels defense and drilled the first goal of the game. The 1-0 lead for the Tigers was pushed out further nearly one minute later when GCU's Brandy Weaver received a pass from teammate Elenrae Befus and chipped it into the goal.

The Tigers continued to attack in the first half, but the Blue Angels defense spread out the opposition for the next 12 minutes. Then at the 29-minute mark, Elenrae Befus knocked in the third goal of the contest swelling the lead to 3-0.

GCU added their fourth goal with six minutes left in the first half. After that, the Blue Angels clamped down holding their opponent to just one more shot the rest of the half.

In the second half, the Tigers pushed the lead to 5-0 when Brown kicked in her second goal of the day. After that, the Blue Angels kept their opponents off the scoreboard. Hannah Rose (Jr./Jeromesville, Ohio) led that defensive charge garnering six of her 14 saves in the final forty minutes of the game; Rose leads the American Collegiate Athletic Association with 102 saves this season and is fifth in NCAA DII in saves per game with 14.67.

Karina Salgado (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) led the Blue Angel offense with the team's two shots on goal.
