Stars Beat Blue Angels 5-4

MILWAUKEE – As the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference season continues, the Mount Mary University lost to Dominican University 5-4 today at the Elite Sports Club. The win makes the Stars 2-5 (2-3) and sends the Blue Angels to 1-7 (1-5) on the season.

A very tough matchup for the Blue Angels as they go up against the Stars, who were picked to finish fourth in the conference during the NACC preseason poll. The Blue Angels battled throughout in this one despite the higher ranking of Dominican.

The doubles matches were extremely evenly matched. The Stars took the advantage 2-1 in the doubles scoring, with the Blue Angels pair of Brooke Slamka (Sr./Racine, Wis.) and Krista Olson (Sr./Appleton, Wis.) winning their match 8-6 over the team of Gabriella Curran and Morganne Schmidt.

MMU split the singles 3 each with Dominican. Ana Mercado (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) won here number one singles match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).Amy Gossett (Fr./Franklin, Wis.) won her first number three singles match 6-4, 7-5 over Schmidt. Sydney Dahlstrom(Sr./Marquette, Mich.) won the fifth doubles spot 6-2, 6-4 over Haley Locher.

The Blue Angels are just a week away from their first NACC victory, and first win of the season. MMU has continually improved from the first game this season, and the closing of the regular season could bring some big play from the Blue Angels.

Following the loss tonight, MMU will get ready for Aurora University. These two teams will square off at 10:00 am Sun. Sept. 20 in Aurora, Ill.
