Cougars Edge Out Blue Angels

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary University tennis team lost to Concordia Chicago 6-3 today at Hart Park. The win gives the Cougars a 2-6 (2-6) record on the year and drops the Blue Angles to 1-9 (1-7).

The evening began with the doubles matches and the Cougars were ready from the first swing. CUC jumped ahead sweeping the entire doubles matches and going into singles with a big 3-0 lead.

The Blue Angels did not give up. Battling each point to the limit, Ana Mercado (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) took her team point 7-5, 6-3 over the No. 1 singles Emma Renteria.

Amy Gossett (Fr./Franklin, Wis.) followed suit with a convincing 6-1,  6-2 win over Ellie Smith. The final team point went to Syndey Dahlstrom (Sr./Marquette, Mich.) in a narrow victory over CUC's Hannah Kaul.

As the Blue Angels continue the NACC season, they have had some close matches against their conferences opponents. The issue has been the doubles as the Blue Angels have gone 4-20 in NACC doubles.

With the spark of a number one singles win, and some more experience across the board, the Blue Angels are hoping to carry the momentum of their solid singles play into next week.

Following tonight, the Blue Angels will get ready for their final road match of the 2015 fall season. MMU will head down Swan Road to Wisconsin Lutheran College to take on the Warriors. The dual match is set for Wed. Sept. 30 beginning at 6:30 pm.
