Raiders Win at Kern Center

MILWAUKEE -- Today at the Kern Center, the Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to host Milwaukee School of Engineering by a final score of 3-0. The Raiders move to 6-11 overall on the season while the Blue Angels are now 1-15.

The Raiders took an early 4-0 lead against the Blue Angels in the opening set of the match. The Blue Angels were able to cut the lead down to three multiple times, but the Raiders continued to attack on offense to sustain and add to the lead. 

The Raiders had their most efficient set of the evening with 14 team kills against the Blue Angels on 42 total attacks in the first. MMU hit five team kills on their 27 total attacks.

The Blue Angels landed with their most efficient set of the night in the second set. MMU was able to land six kills on 29 total attacks. After the Raiders garnered a five point lead early on in the set, the Blue Angels chipped back to make the deficit just two.

A 10-0 run by the Raiders after MMU cut the lead to two, gave MSOE the lead they would not surrender thereafter. MSOE hit 11 team kills, while MMU forced the Raiders into five team errors. But the Raiders held on for the 25-17 set win.

In the third set, the Blue Angels again attacked heavily on offense. This time, the Blue Angels crushed six team kills on their 25 total attacks. Although their offense landed one more kill in the third set than the opposition, the Blue Angels could not recover from the early 12-2 lead by the Raiders. MSOE went on to take the final set 25-11 on their way to the set-victory.

Teammates Adrianna Nester (Sr./Anaheim, Calif.) and Jacklyn Mozdzen (So./Wautoma, Wis.) led the MMU attack against MSOE. Both Blue Angels came away with five kills each. Nester also led her team in digs with nine.

Brianna Ecker (Fr./Fond du Lac, Wis.) kept the offense for the Blue Angels going with a team high eight assists and one service ace.

The Blue Angels will have a few days to prepare for their next road trip to Hancock, Mich. when they take part in the two-day Finlandia Invite. MMU will open the invite with a 5:00 pm game on Fri. Oct. 4. For news, scores and updates on the Blue Angels, make sure to go to MtMaryAthletics.com.
