Runge Earns More Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After yet another standout week of basketball for the senior guard, Jess Runge (Freedom, Wis.) has been selected as the next Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week.

Against AD3I rival Maranatha Baptist University (11-10) Runge scored 16 points and dished out four assists. Attacking on the defensive side of the court also, as she often does, Runge swiped a career high eight steals away from the Sabercats.

To cap things off, Runge most recently set her NCAA single game scoring high with 25 points as she hit 10-of-11 from the field against the Moody Bible Institute Archers (0-8). Keeping pace with her 2.9 steals per game, Runge grabbed five steals against the Archers. That consistent pestering on defense has the senior ranked fourth in the AD3I in steals per game

With two games left to go in her NCAA career, Runge now sits just five steals away from 100 in her NCAA career. The senior also has a chance to help her team tie the program's single season wins record of eight if her team can win both games left on the schedule.

Come to the Bloechl Center on Sat. Feb. 18 to honor Runge and Ariel Oviedo (Sr./Shawano, Wis.) in their final home game. First 150 fans will receive free "Gold Rush" T-shirt. Those who cannot make the game will be able to watch at mtmaryathletics.com with tipoff set for 6:30 pm.
