This Week in Blue Angel Athletics - October 11, 2021

This Week in Blue Angel Athletics - October 11, 2021

Soccer and Volleyball both take to the road while Cross Country competes at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in This Week in Blue Angel Athletics for October 11-18.

Kickers to Face Red Lions, Inferno

Mount Mary (0-10) will travel to Lincoln Christian University for a Thursday matchup with the Red Lions, before facing crosstown rival Alverno Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Angels dropped a pair of decisions to the top two teams in the latest National Collegiate Christian Athletic Association (NCCAA) poll over the weekend, falling 9-0 to Grace Christian Saturday and 8-0 to Great Lakes Christian Sunday.

Freshman Brianna Brown (San Diego, Calif./Herbert Hoover) recorded 20 and 13 saves in each matchup, respectively, facing a barrage of non-stop offensive for the entirety of her 180 minutes in goal.

Lincoln Christian (2-8) has been off since September 29, having a pair of games against Andrews and Iowa Wesleyan postponed over the past two weeks. Alverno (2-4) has officially played six contests this year, but has taken four no-contest decisions in NACC play as the calendar flipped to October. The Inferno dropped a tough 10-0 game to Concordia-Wisconsin Saturday and will play NACC foes Concordia-Chicago Wednesday and Lakeland Saturday before Sunday's 2 p.m. matchup.

Spikers Looking to Build Momentum

Mount Mary (5-15) also takes to the road this week, beginning with a matchup against Maranatha Baptist for the third time this season in a Thursday evening dual in Watertown. The Blue Angels will then play back-to-back matches against Alverno and Rockford Saturday evening at the Rockford triangular.

MMU took care of business against rival Alverno last Wednesday, snapping a 12-match head-to-head losing streak dating back to 2012.

Maranatha Baptist (7-10) is surging as of late, winning six of its last seven contests, including a three-set sweep at Emmaus Bible Saturday afternoon… Rockford (2-17) has not tasted victory since the MMU Invitational back on September 10. The Regents have been swept by all but one of its seven NACC opponents thus far, most recently falling to Lakeland and non-conference foe Carroll this past Saturday.

First serve at Maranatha Baptist is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, while MMU will take on Alverno at Rockford at approximately 6:30, following the previous match between the Inferno and Regents.

Harriers Hopeful for WPC Championships

The Mount Mary cross country team is slated to compete at the Wisconsin Private Colleges Championship this Saturday, hosted by Lawrence University at Reid Municipal Golf course in Appleton.

The Blue Angels haven't competed intercollegiately in over a month, as low numbers have plagued the 2021 season schedule thus far.
