This Week in Blue Angel Athletics - November 29, 2021

Blue Angel basketballers host Lumberjills in This Week in Blue Angel Athletics for November 29-December 5, 2021.

Jills next up for Hoops; Andrews game postponed

The Mount Mary University basketball team will kick off its December slate Friday, welcoming Northland College to the friendly confines of the Bloechl Center. MMU was also scheduled for a matchup with Andrews University in southwestern Michigan Sunday, but that game has been postponed at the Cardinals' request.

Mount Mary (0-8) came oh-so-close to picking up its first win of the year last Tuesday, erasing a 20-point deficit to take a short lead against crosstown rival Alverno College. The Inferno, however, eventually pulled out the hard-fought win, 56-52. MMU also dropped a tough matchup with University of Dubuque Saturday, 88-28, in Iowa.

The Blue Angels have played with a short bench for most of the season, dressing six or seven players since the season opener. Sophomore Talesa Campbell (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd Anderson) continues to lead MMU offensively with 15.1 points per game with sophomore Brianna Duke (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) adding 11.9 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game.

Northland (1-4) dropped two contests at the Finlandia Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend, Saturday to Marian University (Wis.), 69-62, and to the host Lions on Sunday, 80-38. Junior Miranda Wagner (Rawlins, Wyo./Rawlins) and sophomore Triniti Anderson (El Paso, Texas/Hardin-Simmons Univ.) each average 13 points per game, with Anderson scoring a combined 33 points in the Lumberjills' two-game slate over the weekend.
