Salgado Takes Conference Honor

Salgado Takes Conference Honor

MILWAUKEE – For the second week in a row, the Blue Angels have taken home the Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor. Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) had a week to remember, and that effort earned her the award for the week of Oct. 12-18.

Last week, the rookie took control in the Blue Angels first victory of the season. Salgado opened up the contest with a quick goal just three minutes into the game. Salgado followed that up with two more goals in the half and three more assists.

The young forward focused on getting her teammates open in the second half while she added one more assist to her tallies. The breakout game led to the Blue Angels first win of the 2015 season with a convincing 12-2 final over Robert Morris-Lake County.

“Karina has been fantastic all year, her work rate is phenomenal, she covers the entire midfield game in and game out. She is confident ‘1v1’ and is very comfortable with the ball.” Head Coach Jon Gulrajani commented on the rookie’s team play, “Karina always looks to set up her teammates, she puts players in great positions to score. It was nice to see her finish a few goals herself, she has finishing qualities and the composure to make the most of her chances.”

Salgado continues to look for her fellow Blue Angels and help the team, her efforts now have Salgado sitting atop the GSAC in assists (8), and fourth in overall points (18). Coach Gulrajani can only add to that image of true team player, “Karina loves being unselfish, today was a great example. It was fun to see her rewarded in this match, it’s just a reflection of what she has done all year.”
