Blue Angels Golf To Start Fall 2015

Blue Angels Golf To Start Fall 2015

MILWAUKEE -- The Mount Mary University Athletic Department announced during the MMU Sports PodCast that the inaugural Blue Angels Golf team will take to the courses in the 2015 fall season. Golf will be the seventh NCAA sport for MMU.

Recruiting is already underway for Athletic Director/Head Golf Coach Marc Heidorf, “The response already has been that of great interest. Current winter and spring athletes have inquired about joining and I have already received emails from our admissions team saying they have talked to prospective students expressing increased interest in Mount Mary upon learning about the golf program!”

The schedule for the inaugural Blue Angels golf season is in the works and will be released at a later date. The average NCAA schedule plays the majority of the season during the fall semester, with make-up dates and post-season tournaments reserved for a short spring season.

For the time being, the Blue Angels are excited with the addition of the new program. The expansion to the MMU Athletics Department provides 10 spots for NCAA student-athletes, and has already sparked a lot of interest from 2015 and 2016 prospective students.

Golf is the first official sport Mount Mary University has added since becoming NCAA Division III. One of the many reasons golf was selected is that D3 women’s golf has been expanding rapidly the last few years. The addition of the sport will place the Blue Angels right in the middle of a highly competitive region.

An excited coach Marc Heidorf ready to go for the inaugural season, “In addition to being a great lifetime sport, this addition marks another sign of the growth of our athletics dept. It is a great time to be a BLUE ANGEL!”
