North Park No-Hits Blue Angels

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Mount Mary College softball faced some very strong pitchers from North Park University in Saturday's double-header at Hart Park, suffering a hitless day en route to 11-0 and 5-0 defeats at the hands of the Vikings.

The story of the season for Mount Mary has been its offense—or lack thereof—as the Blue Angels had just six total base runners in Saturday's twinbill. The Viking pitchers struck out 19 Mount Mary batters, walked five and hit senior Katie Wolk (Oshkosh, Wis.) in the first inning of game one. Otherwise it was tough going at the plate for the home team.

Defensively, the Blue Angels had six blunders in the first game that created a very long, five-run inning for North Park. Yet Mount Mary tightened the reigns and the sophomore pitching staff of Dani Christian (Pelican Lake, Wis.) and Katie Edwards (Mackinaw, Ill.) caused several outs made by the Blue Angel defense.

Edwards pitched her best game of the year in the second game, picking up a complete-game, seven-inning 5-0 loss. She tallied gave up just seven hits and four walks while picking up a strikeout. She forced 12 NPU hitters into flying out, and six more to ground out against 34 batters faced.

The Blue Angels will battle its fourth double-header in as many days, hosting Milwaukee School of Engineering at 11 am and 1 pm at Hart Park. Sunday will also be the Blue Angels' senior day, honoring the tandem of Ashley Leverenz (Mauston, Wis.) and Emily Barker (Oconomowoc, Wis.).

Following the conclusion of the games, Mount Mary Athletics will also host its Fourth Annual Blue Angel Banquet back on campus in the Alumnae Dining Hall. All five of Mount Mary's 2012-13 athletics will be honored, including this year's softball squad.
