MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University Department of Athletics named Tim Edwards Interim Head Softball Coach for the 2014 season last month.

"It's a privilege to be named Interim Head Softball Coach," Edwards said. My goal is to help keep the MMU softball program headed in the right direction by aggressively recruiting student-athletes with the desire and commitment to achieve their future goals in the classroom as well as on the field."

Edwards, who was an assistant with the program in 2013, will bring a wealth of softball knowledge into his promoted role with the Blue Angels this season having several years' worth of experience coaching at the youth level.

A native of Lincoln, Ill., Edwards has been an American Softball Association-certified club softball coach since 2006. He most recently worked as an assistant with the Bloomington-Normal Girls Softball Association, coaching the 14U, 16U and 18U BNGSA Angels squads from 2008 to 2012.

His Angels squads compiled an overall record of 117-48 overall, including winning the 2009 Glen Ellyn Invitational, the 2010 USSAA Illinois State Championship and the 2012 ASA State Tune-up Championship. His teams also finished as runners-up at the ASA State Tune-Up in 2011 and State Farm Invitational in both 2011 and 2012 and qualified for the ASA Nationals and/or Northern Nationals in all five seasons of his tenure.

From those BNGSA teams with which Edwards worked, 16 players went on to play softball at the collegiate level.

"Tim has already displayed the energy and work ethic that will be needed to keep Blue Angel softball moving in the right direction," Director of Athletics Marc Heidorf said. "He has the attitude that he will not be outworked whether it is while teaching his players or getting out on the recruiting trail."

Edwards has already been instrumental behind-the-scenes for the softball program, undertaking much of the offseason planning, scheduling and recruiting of potential student-athletes. He will take over this year looking to improve on last year's 0-19 campaign.
