CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Day Two of the Gene Cusic Classic slated the Blue Angels into the morning session at the Cape Coral Sports Complex. Six different Blue Angels tallied a hit on the day but MMU dropped both contests, 20-1 to Ohio Wesleyan University and 16-0 to Mount St. Mary University (N.Y.).

For the first time this season, Mount Mary cracked the scoreboard first against the Battling Bishops of OWU as a two-out walk to sophomore Nicole Weggen (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) put the first runner on. Two pitches later, cleanup hitter and junior Katie Edwards (Mackinaw, Ill.) laced a deep shot to center field, scoring Weggen from first and providing MMU its first 1-0 lead of the season.

Weggen would tally two singles in the third and fifth innings to keep her hot streak alive, but Mount Mary's one hit in each inning wasn't enough to cut into a dominating lead by the Bishops.

In the second game, Mount Saint Mary took control early with some aggressive base running and timely hitting, posting eight runs on six hits and two MMU errors in the first inning alone. The Blue Angels managed just three hits in the five-inning game, being shut out for the fifth time this season.

As for Tuesday's silver lining, despite a pair of tough losses, three Blue Angels recorded their first hits of the season. Freshmen Harmony French (Amherst, Wis.) and Phoenix Hulsey (Wauwatosa, Wis.) each recorded their inaugural hit against Ohio Wesleyan, coming on a shot to left and a strike over the second baseman's outstretched glove respectively. Sophomore Tracy Boutell (Brown Deer, Wis.) also sent one back up the middle in the fourth inning against MSMC as all three have now cracked the hit column.

Edwards took both losses Tuesday in the circle, striking out three while issuing just five walks in both games combined.

Mount Mary will continue on with its four-day slate with a pair of games Wednesday afternoon. The Angels will play New Jersey City University at 1:00 p.m. back at the Cape Coral fields before facing Olivet College (Mich.) at 3:00 p.m.
