Captain's Blog - Fort Myers Edition, Day 4
Senior co-captain Katie Wolk (Oshkosh, Wis.) discusses the team's new mascot, a turf war and some raindrop dodging Wednesday.

After a long day in the sun yesterday, we had the opportunity to hit the snooze button on our early alarms this morning and sleep in today. It was a bit slow moving this morning because a few girls got a little too much sun at the beach. The worst sunburn award goes to Ang, covering her whole backside and forehead. Coming in second, would be Michelle with her fun patchy sunburn legs. It looked like a disease was taking over her body.

After lathering up with enormous amounts of sunscreen, the girls fought hard through the sunburn pain for the first matchup. In the second game, we faced our rivals—we've never played Olivet before but we saw them beforehand (in our hotel that is). Lucky us, we get to share our hotel for the week with them.

Otherwise, our super fan was in attendance again today with his VIP seating. "Mister Owl" overlooked home plate with his poised self. At one point, I thought he was a goner because a foul ball popped up in his direction. Luckily, he dodged the bullet and remained safe. The umpire and I both conversed that we would have cried if something were to happen to him.

It didn't take long for the rain to roll in. As soon as we finished our Olivet game, Mother Nature decided to down pour on us. Needless to say, the car ride back to the hotel was quite "wet". Sitting in sweaty, dirty, and wet jerseys was quite uncomfortable. Hopefully the car rental place doesn't charge us extra for sand stains. Oops!

Since we didn't get much of a break between games, the team was quite hungry for dinner. On the menu was pasta with meatballs and Italian bread at the hotel. We definitely loaded up on our carbs and filled our bellies with a scrumptious home cooked meal. The night ended with delicious chocolate and vanilla ice cream for a treat.

Wolk is a three year letter-winner in softball and is majoring in Occupational Therapy.
