CHICAGO – The Mount Mary University softball team returned to action on a beautiful Friday afternoon in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. Though despite temperatures in the reaching the 70s, the Blue Angel bats were still in hibernation as they fell 17-0, 14-0 to North Park University in the Friday double-header.

Mount Mary (2-20) managed just three total hits on the day—one in the opener, and two in the nightcap.

North Park (10-12), on the other hand, pasted 21 hits in the first game and added 19 more in game two to go with four total MMU errors on the day.

Junior Katie Edwards (Mackinaw, Ill.) stayed hot at the plate, tallying a pair of hits in her four at-bats Friday. With a hit in each game, Edwards is currently riding an 8-game hit streak.

Sophomore Nicole Weggen (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) also got back into the offensive act by adding a deep shot off the centerfield wall in game two.

Mount Mary's only threat to score came in game two, when Weggen and Edwards led off the third inning with back-to-back hits. However, three straight Blue Angels were retired to squash any chance at putting a run across the plate.

Without the arm of starting pitcher Lauren Wiech (Colgate, Wis.), Edwards took both losses on the afternoon, falling to 1-13 inside the circle this season.

The Blue Angels will hope for a quick turnaround Saturday at Quandt-Birk Park in Watertown, Wis., as they will battle Maranatha Baptist University for the second time in 7 days.

Last weekend, MMU picked up its first pair of wins since the 2012 season against an undermanned Crusader squad, and with a full roster for Saturday, MBU will be looking to exact revenge. First pitch for the double-header is slated for noon.
