MILWAUKEE – The Association of Division III Independents announced on Tuesday April 21st that Mount Mary University's Ashley Contreras (Fr./College Station, Texas) is the next AD3I Softball Player of the Week.
Contreras was instrumental in the 2-2 record her team recorded last week. At the plate, the freshman continued to crush the ball. The rookie went 7 for 14 in the batter's box making her sixth in the AD3I in hits. Along with those hits, Contreras had three doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
In the circle, Contreras did something no Blue Angel has done since joining the NCAA ranks, pitched a complete game shutout. Contreras went the full seven innings scattering six hits, and striking out her season high eight batters.
A stellar season so far for Contreras as she is tops in AD3I in doubles, and top 10 in hits (28), batting average (.350), slugging percentage (.563), homeruns (2), innings pitched (86.0), complete games (9) and strikeouts (52).
