Edwards Honored In Final Week

MILWAUKEE – On Tuesday April 28th, the Association of Division III Independents announced that Mount Mary University Katie Edwards (Sr./Mackinaw, Ill.) is this week's AD3I Softball Player of the Week.

The senior has a been a big part of this season's success leading the AD3I in homeruns with seven, second in batting average with .417, first in slugging .690, and tied for first in RBI with 28.

This week in particular the Blue Angels used that high powered Edwards' offense to propel them to a 2-1 record. The 9-22 season record ties the MMU single season wins record since joining the NCAA.

Edwards was an amazing in the box this week, going 6-for-9 with three of those hits leaving the yard. In game one against Rockford University, Edwards hit two of her three homeruns, including one in the bottom of the seventh with two outs for the senior's first collegiate walk-off homer.

Edwards finished off her career the same way she began, with a two run homerun. In Edwards' second at-bat ever as a Blue Angel, the backstop smashed a two RBI homer in her very first game at MMU. In a fitting fashion, the now senior knocked in a two run shot to complete her ever impressive career.
