Raiders Take Two

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University lost both games in their doubleheader against host Milwaukee School of Engineering today at the MSOE Athletic Fields. The Blue Angels are now 5-16 on the season while the Raiders move to 7-15.

Game one, the Raiders jumped ahead 5-0 until the fourth inning when Ashley Contreras (So./College Station, Texas) led the inning off with a double, then was moved home by Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) for the first run of the game for MMU. Michelle Argenzio (Sr./Brookfield, Wis.) brought Hintz home with a single to right field to make it 5-2.

The Raiders spaced out two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to finish the game ahead 7-2.

Contreras led game one going 3-of-4 from the plate with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.

Nikki Festge (Sr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was hit with the loss in game one, going 6.0 innings, giving up 13 hits, seven runs, seven earned runs, while striking out one.

In game two the Raiders again got out to the early lead. Batting around the order in the first inning, the Raiders plated nine runs off of five hits, and all of which came with two outs.

After the big opening inning for MSOE, the Blue Angels plugged away and got a big jolt in offense to lead off the fourth inning. Contreras turned on the third pitch of the inning taking it deep for her third homerun of the season. MMU made it 10-1 at that point, but could not cut down the lead any more.

The Raiders added three more runs in the fifth to prompt the five inning game with a final score of 13-1.

Contreras was dealt the loss in game two, and finished with 4.0 innings, 11 hits, 13 runs, 12 earned runs, while striking out one. Contreras also led the offense in game two going 1-of-2 with a homerun.

Following today's doubleheader, the Blue Angels will get ready to head to Mequon, Wis. to face Concordia (Wis.) for the first time this season. The Blue Angels will have a day off then head to the Concordia Softball Field Fri. Apr. 22 with first pitch set for 3:00 pm. Stay tuned to mtmaryathletics.com for scores and updates.
