Falcons Win Doubleheader

MEQUON, Wis. – Today at the CUW Softball Complex, the Mount Mary University softball team lost a pair of games to host Concordia University Wisconsin. The Falcons won game one 8-0 in six innings, then followed up with a 10-0 five inning win in game two. The win makes the Falcons 19-13 on the season and moves the Blue Angels to 5-18.

The shorthanded Blue Angels matched the Falcons throughout the first four innings. Nikki Festge (Sr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) spaced out three hits in 4.0 innings pitched. Then the Falcons batted around in the fifth inning scoring seven runs off of nine hits.

After adding another two out run in the bottom of the sixth, the game was ended right there at 8-0.

Festge and Jess Runge (Jr./Freedom, Wis.) each had one of the Blue Angels two hits in game one. Festge was pegged with the loss and pitched 5.2 innings, with 14 hits, eight earned runs, while striking out two.

In game two, the Falcons got ahead quickly with a three run first inning. After Festge walked in the second inning, MMU was kept off the base paths as Emily Brekke would finish with a six strikeout, five inning no-hitter.

Adding seven combined runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, the Falcons finished the game early 10-0.

Ashley Contreras (So./College Station, Texas) was dealt the loss in the second game pitching 4.0 innings, surrendering 11 hits, 10 earned runs, walking four and striking out two.
