MMU Student-Athletes Take Home Awards

MMU Student-Athletes Take Home Awards

MACON, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference banquet was held tonight at Wesleyan College. There were multiple Mount Mary University Blue Angels among the recipients in the final GSAC award ceremony. In the Blue Angels first ever season in the GSAC, they took home five annual conference awards.

After a year where 51 percent of all Mount Mary University student-athletes made the MMU 2015 fall Dean's list (students earning a 3.6 GPA or higher for the semester), the Blue Angels continued to work in the classroom as well as on the field. 80 percent of all MMU student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher last fall.

Four of those hard working Blue Angel student-athletes earned a spot on the GSAC All-Academic Softball Team for the 2015-16 season. Michelle Argenzio (Sr./Brookfield, Wis.), Ashley Contreras (So./College Station, Texas), Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) and Nikki Festge (Sr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) all were members of the GSAC All-Academic team.

Michelle Argenzio was also honored as a member of the GSAC All-Sportsmanship team. Players exhibiting a positive attitude while being an encouraging teammate all while playing with the utmost respect for the game were given the award.

Now the Blue Angels will prepare for their final games of the season against rival Maranatha Baptist University. MMU will take on the Sabercats Tue. May 3 in Watertown, Wis. with first pitch set for 5:00 pm.
