Trojans Take One

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Mount Mary University softball team lost their game against host Trinity International University (14-25) by a score of 10-0. The scheduled doubleheader between the schools had the second game called short due to the weather.

Hannah Harnsberger (Fr./Hillsboro, Ore.) started the lone contest in the circle for the Blue Angels (14-19). A very potent offensive attack from the Trojans gave TIU the early lead. In the bottom half of the first inning the Trojans efficiently scored three runs off three hits.

The Blue Angels kept the opposition off the scoreboard in the second frame, but TIU exploded in their turn in the third when a lead-off double started the rally of eight team hits and seven runs for the Trojans. With the 10-0 score after five, the game was ended early.

Harnsberger worked through it all going 4.0 innings surrendering 12 hits, 10 earned runs and striking out one. Getting the loss on the day moves Hansberger's record to 8-10 on the year.

Katie Arce (Fr./Cypress, Calif.) led the Blue Angels offense generating MMU's only hits. The third basemen finished 2-of-2 at the plate getting hits in the first and fourth inning.

Game two did begin, but with the persistent rains and inclement weather the field was deemed unplayable. With the limited number of dates available to make-up today's second game, there will be no rescheduled contest this season.

As the rain continues through Midwest, the Blue Angels scheduled doubleheader for tomorrow on the campus of Cornell College has been cancelled. Again, with no dates left, that doubleheader will not be rescheduled in 2017.

MMU will get ready for their 2017 finale on Tue. May 2 at 3:00 pm. The Blue Angels will take on the Warriors from Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Nuemann Family Softball Field. Live stats for the game will be made available at mtmaryathetlics.com.
