Preview Wisconsin Lutheran College vs MMU

MILWAUKEE – Today at the Neumann Family Softball Field, the Mount Mary University softball team (14-19) will take on host Wisconsin Lutheran College (13-25). Although the Warriors lead the all-time series 8-1, the Blue Angels are 7-3 in their last ten games this season including a sweep of No. 3 seed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, Milwaukee School of Engineering (28-13). MMU will test their hot streak at 3:00 pm this afternoon against cross-street rival WLC.

This season the Blue Angels have raised the bar across the board. The team has already set the school record for wins in a season, and with the most potent MMU offense in school history, the Blue Angels have a chance to add to that record.

Both Sidnee Turnage (Fr./Hesperia, Calif.) and Katie Arce (Fr./Cypress, Calif.) are hitting over .400 on the season, eighth and ninth respectively in the Association of Division III Independents batting average race. While both provide much needed "alley-power", Turnage is one homerun out of first place in the AD3I homer race.

The Warriors are coming into today's series 4-10 in their last ten games. As a team, WLC hits .305 at the plate and sport a .350 on-base percentage. That gives MMU the edge on offense with the Blue Angels .317 BA and .388 OBP.

On paper, the Warriors might have the upper hand in the circle as the WLC's team ERA is nearly 2 runs lower. The low team ERA is due in large part to sophomore hurler Abby Mahsem. Mahsem has worked 104.1 innings this season striking-out 79 batters and posting a 3.35 ERA.
