The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2021 softball season. Mount Mary freshman Sam Allen earned C2C Player of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport senior Emily Weatherholtz claimed C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sam Allen - Mount Mary
Mount Mary (6-19) swept a home-and-home series with regional rival Maranatha Baptist University Friday and Saturday, outscoring the Sabercats 60-10 in a pair of double-headers. The four wins upped Mount Mary's win streak against MBU to 27 straight games. Offense was aplenty as MMU recorded 50 total hits over the 18 innings played. Freshman Sam Allen went 9-for-15 at the plate with five doubles, a triple, 10 RBI and seven runs scored. The prolific weekend upped her season batting average to .412 overall, currently ranking No. 2 in the C2C. Junior Aislinn Strusz also impressed, going 5-for-8 with three doubles, a homer, nine RBI and four runs scored, and sophomore Brianna Ecker went 6-for-8 with a double, triple, and home run to record five RBI and six runs scored.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Emily Weatherholtz - Christopher Newport
Christopher Newport senior Emily Weatherholtz threw a five inning no-hitter Saturday vs. Mary Washington, her first career no-hitter and first of the season for the Captains. The senior righthander improved her record on the year to 12-2 as she faced just 16 batters, allowing no runs and just one walk in the fourth inning of an 8-0 CNU victory. She struck out four as the 14th-ranked Captains improved their record on the season to 24-10 overall and 4-2 in the C2C with a doubleheader sweep over the Eagles.

LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS

Freshman Brianna Lupa (Plano, Ill./Plano) threw 6.2 innings across two games over the weekend, giving up no runs, just three hits, and striking out 13 of the 23 batters she faced?including five straight to close out game two on Friday. Offensively, she also was impressive at the plate, going 3-for-3 on Friday with four RBI and five runs scored... Salisbury sophomore Savannah Sheats earned her eighth win of the season in the nightcap of No. 12 Salisbury's doubleheader sweep of the Southern Virginia Knights on Saturday. She struck out six batters and scattered five hits in five innings of work against the Knights...Sophomore Abby Mace pushed her hitting streak to 10 games and her on-base streak to 17 games with a four-hit performance in No. 12 Salisbury's doubleheader sweep over Southern Virginia on Saturday. Mace hit two home runs to hit double-digits in home runs cor the season (11) and extend her conference lead. She also drove in five runs and scored three times in the twinbill....Southern Virginia freshman Abigail Harris appeared in three games last week, recording 11.1 innings pitched and a 4.94 ERA while striking out nine batters...Caitlin Barber had a great week, posting a slash line of .300/.462/.700 with four RBIs. Her three hits on the week included a solo home run at Salisbury and a double against WVU Potomac State College....Christopher Newport senior Keely Crittenden had a memorable Senior Day Saturday, as she drove in four runs, posted two hits, and also recorded a sacrifice fly in the Captains sweep over Mary Washington. Crittenden was one of six senior Captains who were honored prior the twin bill.
