Softball Preview: Rockford and Lawrence

Softball Preview: Rockford and Lawrence

The Mount Mary softball team continues a string of games played in the state of Illinois when they head to Rockford University for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 31st.  The games are scheduled for 3 and 5 pm.

The Regents currently hold a record of 8-6, having lost their last 4 games to Aurora University and the University of Dubuque.  Rockford has averaged almost 8 runs per game this season, led by Emily Cox and Kandace Kipp, who each boast a batting average above .450.

The last meeting between Mount Mary and Rockford occurred on March 29th, 2021, with the Regents taking both ends of the doubleheader.

On Friday, April 1st, The Blue Angels are scheduled to travel to Appleton to face the Vikings of Lawrence University.  The games are scheduled for 3 and 5 pm.

The contests will be the first played in the state of Wisconsin by Mount Mary this season.  On February 24th, in Peoria, Illinois, Mount Mary started the season with a bang when they defeated Lawrence 18-0.

The Vikings have not broken into the win column thus far on the campaign, holding a record of 0-18.

The Blue Angels (5-12), have lost 7 of their 12 games by 5 runs or less.  Aislinn Strusz has sparked the Mount Mary offense all season, boasting a batting average of .429 and 18 runs batted in.  She leads the Blue Angels is almost every offensive category.

Brianna Lupa has pitched 60% of the season for the Blue Angels, carrying a most impressive era of 2.97.  Keys for the Blue Angels putting together a win streak seem to be consistent hitting with runners in scoring position, and shoring up the defense to limit the big innings that have plagued Mount Mary in their recent games.
