Blue Angels sweep at Maranatha- Record Breaking Winning Streak extended to six

Watertown- WI- The Mount Mary University softball team traveled to Watertown on Saturday looking to complete a four-game season sweep of the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats.  The Blue Angels used the same blueprint as Friday to win both games, dominant pitching, an offensive attack with many contributors and solid defense.   Mount Mary has now won six straight games and eight of their last nine.  The six-game winning streak is the longest in the NCAA era of Mount Mary softball, stretching back to the 2010 season.

The quick turnaround was a concern for Head Coach Perry Clark, but he was pleased with the effort the team produced on Saturday, "we started the first game a little flat, due to it being our 3rd game in 36 hours.  But we got over that quickly and continued to hit the ball well."

The Blue Angel pitching staff continued to be rock solid Saturday as well.  Maranatha scored only 4 runs in the doubleheader, in their last seven games, MMU pitching has remarkably allowed only 8 runs.

Clark on the great work of the pitching staff, "The entire pitching staff continues to improve.  Bri (Lupa), Elise (DeGraef), McKinzie (Alexus-Douglas), and Amanda (Hinton) all had great control and movement today."

Mount Mary scored 8 runs in game one and 16 in game two, combining for 24 runs and 25 hits in the doubleheader.  Nearly every Blue Angel on the roster contributed to the offensive success, an outcome that Clark contributes in large part to a constantly improving approach at the plate, "Our hitters are understanding pitch selection and patience at the plate which is leading to our great production.  Shawna (Butler) hit her first career homerun, a 3 run bomb to center, and Ace (Aislinn Strusz) Sam (Allen) and Micaela (Gonzales) all continue to stay red hot."

Mount Mary (13-15) is now one win away from matching the best win total achieved in the program since 2017.  Reaching 15 wins would give the 2022 team the highest win total ever in the modern NCAA era of Blue Angel softball.

Mount Mary's next scheduled contest is a trip to Lakeland University on Wednesday, April 27th.  Clark believes the team is capable of continuing the win streak and outstanding play, "our remaining games are not easy, and we are going to have to kick it up a notch.  I believe our team is ready for the challenge."
