Softball drops close contests to conclude Florida Trip

Winter Haven, FL- In their final two contests of the Spring Games in Florida, the Mount Mary softball team showed improved pitching and defense.  However, MMU could not generate enough offense to grab a win and fell in contests to Elizabethtown and Augsburg.

In Saturday's first match up against Elizabethtown, Mount Mary fell by a 5-2 margin.  Statistics for the contest are still being gathered.

The Blue Angels would finish the trip with an early evening contest against Augsburg University of Minnesota.  Elise DeGraef pitched the first five innings and kept Augsburg largely at bay, surrendering only four runs.  Mount Mary could not string together clutch hits unfortunately and fell in the contest by a 4-0 final.  Taylor Hames was the offensive standout for the Blue Angels with two hits against Augsburg.

Perry Clark commented on the tail end of the trip and the games overall, "The biggest positive we can take from the trip is we are a stronger team than we were prior to Florida.  That will help us overcome the negatives, we look forward to the second half of the season."

MMU (4-15) will return to the Midwest and resume their schedule on Saturday, March, 18th.  The Blue Angels will cross the border and take on the Stars of Dominican University in Rosemont, Illinois.  All coverage is available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
