Softball takes two on Senior Day

Softball takes two on Senior Day

Waukesha, WI- On a day in which they honored their four graduating seniors, the Mount Mary Blue Angel softball team took two games from Maranatha Baptist by final scores of 9-1 and 7-2.

In game one, Brianna Lupa was her usual dominant self in the circle.  She limited the Sabercats to only one run and also helped her own cause at the plate with a clutch two run single in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Mary DeFore, Brianna Ecker and Jalyssa Rivera each had two hits for Mount Mary in game one.  Ecker knocked in two runs, as did Lupa and Sam Allen.

In game two, MMU got off to a fast start.  The Blue Angels plated two in the bottom of the first using a combination of clutch hitting and drawing two walks from MBU pitching.

Lillian Fay began the bottom of the 2nd with a blast to left which cleared the fence to give MMU a 3-0 lead.  Mount Mary struck again in the bottom of the 4th, after a single Sabercat run in the top of the inning, MMU pushed across two runs to take a 5-1 lead into the 5th.

The Sabercats would not fade away, scoring a single run in the top of the 6th to pull within a 6-2 margin.

That was as close as they would come.  Mount Mary took game 2 by a final of 7-2.  Elise DeGraef was sharp in the circle, allowing only two runs in nearly six innings of work.

In addition to Fay's homerun, Sam Allen, Mary Defore, Alyssa Becker and Lupa each had two hits in game 2.  Mount Mary pounded out a total of 13 hits in the 7-run game two effort.

Head Coach Perry Clark was pleased with the sweep and had this to say, "I was very happy for our seniors to win two on senior day.  We came through when we needed to in the wins, but I know we can still perform better at the plate.  Our schedule for the remainder of the season is not easy but I am confident we are ready for the challenge."

Prior to the games, the Mount Mary softball program honored this season's four seniors.  Marissa Heraly, Kaitlyn Gilpin, Jalyssa Rivera and Sam Allen were recognized for their contributions to the Blue Angel softball team.

The Blue Angels (9-22) will next be in action on Wednesday, May 3rd.  MMU will head to Alverno College to take on the Inferno in a doubleheader with the games scheduled for 3 and 5 pm.
