Blue Angels stay hot in sweep of Maranatha

Watertown, WI- For the second consecutive Thursday, the Mount Mary softball team took on the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University.  Things went according to plan for Mount Mary as they won both games in Watertown, by final scores of 13-1 and 12-3.

The Blue Angel offense wasted no time getting started.  MMU scored 6 runs in the top of the first inning of the day, highlighted by a three-run double by Jodie Penman and a 2 run double by Sam Allen

Mount Mary continued to add on in the third inning, with 5 runs to claim a 11-1 lead.  Micaela Gonzalez, Crystal Peterson, and Sam Allen had run scoring hits to key the Blue Angel rally. 

The Blue Angels would add two runs in the top of the 4th, Taylor Hames would allow only one run and three hits in the pitching circle and MMU would cruise to a game one win by a score of 13-1.

Sam Allen had 3 hits and 4 rbi in game one, Jodie Penman added 2 hits and three runs batted in.  Brianna Ecker, Katelyn McCallum, and Micaela Gonzalez each had 2 hits in the runaway win.

In game two, Maranatha scored two in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  The Blue Angels would score three and take a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the third.  The Sabercats pushed across a single run in the inning to even the game at 3.

The Blue Angels answered right back in the top of the 4th, a Brianna Ecker triple started the rally and was followed by rbi hits by Katelyn McCallum and Lillian Fay.  Mount Mary scored five times in the inning and claimed an 8-3 lead. 

The Blue Angels plated another 4 runs in the top of the 6th, and Brianna Lupa slammed the door with two scoreless innings in the pitching circle.  MMU took game two by a 12-3 final.

Offensively, Mount Mary pounded out 13 hits in game two.  Katelyn McCallum was the offensive standout of game 2, going 3 for 5 with two runs batted in.  Lillian Fay had 3 hits and Mary DeFore added two hits as well.  DeFore also provided two runs batted in.

The Blue Angels (6-19) have now won five of their last eight games.  The two teams will meet again on Saturday, at Glendale Community Park.  The games will be played at 12 and 2 pm, also seniors Brianna Lupa, Brianna Ecker, Alyssa Becker, Mary DeFore and Jodie Penman will be recognized with a senior day ceremony between the games of the doubleheader.  All live coverage can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
