Blue Angels Finish Season at University of Chicago

Chicago, IL- Heading into their final doubleheader of the 2024 season, the Mount Mary softball team knew they were facing a tough opponent.  They headed to Illinois to take on the 23-8 Maroons of the University of Chicago.  The Maroons lived up to their sparkling record and defeated MMU by scores of 11-0 and 9-0.

Game one saw Chicago use a nine run third inning to run away with the contest.  Katelyn McCallum and Brianna Mendez had hits for MMU as the Maroons took game one by a score of 11-0.

In game two, the University of Chicago scored nine runs in the game's first three innings.  This would be the difference in the game as MMU fell by a 9-0 score.  Alexandria Eads and Brianna Ecker had base hits for Mount Mary in the contest.

Game two marked the final appearance in a Blue Angel uniform for Brianna Lupa.  Lupa finishes her career as the program's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts and complete games, the most decorated pitcher in the history of the program.

The Blue Angels complete the season at 10-29.  It is the third consecutive double digit win season for the program, the first time in history this has been accomplished by Blue Angel softball.  The 34 wins over the last three seasons is also the winningest three-year span ever for Mount Mary softball.  The program continues to show great signs for the future.   All coverage and updates of Mount Mary softball can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
