Lakers Top Blue Angels

Lakers Top Blue Angels

Manitowoc, Wis. – A trip to Manitowoc resulted in a loss for Mount Mary University. Silver Lake College won 88-40 as they push the Blue Angels to 3-12.

Out of the gate, the Lakers were determined to attack the basket as much as possible. 32 of 47 of the first half points came from the paint for SLC. When they were not attacking inside, the Lakers were sure to kick the ball out as they launched 12 3-pointers in the half.

Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) had nine points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes to lead her team in both categories.

The second half saw a more energized Blue Angels team. MMU limited the shots in the second, but with the Lakers shooting at 47 percent from the floor, it made any hopes at a comeback slim. The Blue Angels took better care of the ball for the last 20 minutes as they limited their turnovers to 15.

Picking up her play and her minutes, rookie Jasmine Meyer (Lansing, Kan.) dropped 10 points and pulled in 4 rebounds. As the lineup continues to evolve throughout the season, Meyer has elevated her play. Meyer has seen an increase in minutes as she keeps up her stellar play.

Onan finished the game with a team high 13 points and seven rebounds as she continues to play well against tough competition. The rookie takes care of business on the defensive end also, which has been a big catalyst for MMU at times. She finished with one steal and one block, but her presence in the post deterred many close shots for the Lakers.

Now it is time for Blue Angels to prepare for MacMurray College. MMU will host Highlanders Tuesday Jan. 27th at 6:00 pm.
