Highlanders Coming To Bloechl

Highlanders Coming To Bloechl

Mount Mary University basketball returns home this Tuesday Jan. 26th at 6:00 pm. MacMurray College (4-12) will make the trip to the Bloechl Center all the way from Jacksonville, Ill.

The Blue Angels are coming off a loss to Silver Lake College. Another game where the Blue Angels had stretches where the team outplayed the opposition, but they could never quite keep it going long enough. As the Lakers pounded the paint and took the high percentage shots, the Blue Angels could not keep up as they shot 32 percent from the floor.

The good news is that the Blue Angels have been playing better since the winter break. MMU has cut down on the average turnovers per game, and has fought through some close contests as well.

On the other side, the Highlanders are coming off the team's third loss in a row. The team is also experience a state of transition as they have routinely decreased their amount of 3-point shooting and concentrate more on scoring in the lane.

A good mix of young players have been stepping up to the collegiate challenge. Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) has slowly been adding on to her game seemingly every night. When the young Blue Angel does not hit her average 9.1 points per game, she is forcing the team to take bad shots, or is blocking them averaging 1.3 bpg.

Newcomer Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has answered the call as well. She is averaging 12.8 ppg and pulling down a team leading 7.3 rebounds per game. Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.) has been tearing down boards as well, averaging 5.1 rpg. Meyer has been a big plus as she scores nearly eight points a night and has the teams fewest turnovers.

Once the Blue Angels are finished hosting the Highlanders, they will get ready to host the Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday Feb. 4th at 6:00 pm.
