NCAA Era Series: Blue Angels lead 2-0.
The Eagles are 13-4 on the season riding a seven game winning streak. Their most recent win coming against common opponent Maranatha Baptist; the Sabercats defeated MMU 62-39 on Jan. 23. However, this year's first match between Emmaus and Mount Mary, the Blue Angels won in overtime 71-69.
Emmaus averages 65.4 points per game while opponents average 53.9 points per game. A big part of the higher offensive output recently can be attributed to the 7.4 3-point makes a game. While shooting 39.2 from the field 32.2 from beyond the arc, the Eagles consistent scoring has been the difference in their wins.
The Eagles are led by Madison Liab who averages 20.0 points per game and pulls down 6.7 rebounds per game.
A late addition to the team, Shelby Hembera has averaged 12.3 points in her nine games this season and 9.8 rebounds a night. Perhaps one of the differences in the win for the Eagles against Maranatha Baptist, Hembera scored 21 points on 8-of-13 from the field while pulling in 22 rebounds.
The Blue Angels are 2-9 on the year after losing their last three in a row. Most recently, MMU lost to Silver Lake College 60-21. One of the Blue Angels highlights from the game was Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.) who recorded her NCAA high of six blocks in a single game. The six blocks also sets an MMU single game record, previously the record was four blocks which Onan shared with one other Blue Angel in history.
Before this season, Onan held the single season blocks record at MMU with 33 in 2014. Right now, Onan sits with 34 blocks this season with eight regular season games left. In the first four seasons the Blue Angels were in the NCAA, MMU as a team averaged 29.75 blocks per season.
