Preview Maranatha Baptist vs MMU

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Mount Mary University women's basketball team (5-11) is heading to the campus of Maranatha Baptist University for today's late season contest. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm at the MBU Gymnasium. The Sabercats (9-10) are most recently coming off a loss, snapping their four game winning streak at home.

Outside of their slight home court advantage, (4-3 at home), the Sabercats mathematically matchup with the Blue Angels evenly. MBU averages +1.2 more points per game, while the Blue Angels field goal percentage is a full percentage point higher. The benefit of taking 8.2 extra field goal attempts in each game by the Sabercats, might be negated by the Blue Angels 26.2 percent 3-point shooting; MBU shoots 20.8 percent from 3-point range.

Getting things started on both ends of the court, Sabercat Hanna Glaze leads her team with 13.5 points per game, 2.8 assists per game, 3.4 steals per game and 0.6 blocks per game. Her 5.4 rebounds per game is second on the team in that category.

Leading the Sabercats in rebounding Alexis Johnson averages 6.4 rebounds per game while also adding 12.5 points per game, 2.8 steals per game and 0.6 blocks per game.

The Blue Angels spread the scoring across the lineup equally. However, Becky Onan (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game. Right behind Onan, Jess Runge (Sr./Freedom, Wis.) is averaging 12.7 points per game.

Rookie Rae Grubbs (Fr./Covington, Ind.) is third on the team with 9.1 points per game. Fans may remember Grubbs knocking down the game-winning shot against Robert Morris University Springfield (0-16) with just 15 seconds left on the clock. Grubbs has been a dependable offensive option recently averaging 10.0 points per game in her last four contests.

The Sabercats lead the series since MMU joined the NCAA at 5-1. MBU won both games in last season's series, however, the Blue Angels cut the point differential from -23.0 in game one to -5.0 in game two.
