Williams Earns First Collegiate Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Following the freshman's astonishing game against Grace Bible College, Erica Williams (Bloomington, Ill.) has just been named the next Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week. (AD3I Release) The rookie has been dominating the rebound category all season long and her tenacity pays off big time.

Williams has come to the collegiate level ready to step up into a dependable role. So far, this season she has burst onto the scene grabbing nearly every loose ball she can get her hands on. Those efforts have the rookie third in the AD3I in rebounds per game (10.5) and first in offensive rebounds per game (5.7).

Most recently, Williams took control against Grace Bible College last Sat. Dec 2. The forward crashed the paint with intensity and came away with 15 rebounds in the game, and 30 of the team's 58 points. With seven offensive rebounds against the Tigers, Williams put nearly every missed Blue Angel opportunity right back into the bucket as she shot 14-of-16 from the field. While many of her shots came within four feet of the basket, perhaps the momentum-shifting score of the game came after Williams picked off the ball from the opponent and launched a near half-court shot with time winding down to give MMU a one-point lead after the first quarter.

Williams and the Blue Angels will travel to Manitowoc, Wis. to take on Silver Lake College (3-3) this Thu. Dec. 7. Live video courtesy of the Silver Lake Athletic Department will be available at mtmaryathletics.com.
