Cook Delivers Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – As the season progresses, the Mount Mary University basketball team continues to build. After an outstanding game from the rookie guard, Kaylie Cook (Fr./Fairborn, Ohio) has been announced as the next Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week. A rare honor given to a player who did not start in a contest during the week. Cook has made the most of all her opportunities this season regardless of where she is on the depth chart demonstrating her speed, intensity and ability to energize the offense for MMU. As Cook's time has been limited early in the season, foul trouble from starting forward Erica Williams (Fr./Bloomington, Ill.) prompted a reshuffling of the lineup against Silver Lake College (4-3).

Cook came into her fourth collegiate contest averaging under 15 minutes per contest. Impressively, Cook responded to the call with a 14-point performance in the contest against SLC.

The high offensive output was a product of the rookie hitting 8-of-12 from the free throw line and 3-of-7 from the field. While also helping her team on the defensive side of the court, Cook pulled away three rebounds and came away with one steal against the Lakers.

The Blue Angels will have a week to prepare for their next game and final contest before the calendar changes to 2018. Live stats and video for the Blue Angels and Milwaukee School of Engineering will be made available at mtmaryahletics.com. Coverage will start at 6:45 pm for the 7:00 pm tipoff at the Bloechl Center on Mon. Dec. 18.
