OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Following a very productive month for the new Blue Angel, it was announced this morning that Erica Williams (Fr./Bloomington, Ill.) is the Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Student-Athlete of the Month for December. Just halfway through her first season with Mount Mary University, Williams has been a major factor in the Blue Angels success.

Williams started off the month with what could be deemed her "breakout" game. In a very close contest against Grace Bible College (3-10), Williams gave a near flawless performance for her new squad. As she was already making her presence known with just under ten rebounds per game in her first five contests, Williams ripped down 15 rebounds against the Tigers on Sat. Dec. 2.

Along with those 15 rebounds, Williams seemingly could not miss. She shot 14-of-16 from the field, which included a last second half court shot that gave MMU a two-point lead to end the first quarter. The forward ended the night with 30 points which helped her team grab the 58-52 victory.

Near the halfway mark for most teams in the AD3I, Williams leads the association in field goal percentage with 54.4 and is fourth in the AD3I with 8.6 rebounds per game. Second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game, Williams has been a dependable presence in the post for the Blue Angels on both sides of the court.

Williams and the Blue Angels (2-7) will return to action this Friday at the Bloechl Center. The Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University (2-9) will take on MMU Fri. Jan. 12 at 5:30 pm. Live stats and video for the contest will be made available at mtmaryathletics.com.
