Williams Earns Third AD3I Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Erica Williams (Fr./Bloomington, Ill.) has been selected as the next Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week. As the freshman forward continues to develop into a predominant post player, she earned her fourth double-double of the season last week in the Blue Angels (5-9) win over Illinois Tech. (AD3I Press Release)

Using her savvy and strength in the post, Williams cleared the way for both herself and her teammates to have multiple opportunities to collect missed shots. As of late, Williams has become more and more consistent in her efforts on the boards and that has resulted in a statistical surge.

In three of her last four games, Williams has pulled down double-digit rebounds while scoring ten or more points, also referred to in basketball as a double-double. A difficult accomplishment at the collegiate level, Williams has made it look easy and she did so against the Scarlet Hawks (1-17) last Friday.

Williams shot an effective 8-of-12 from the field on her way to 19 points. She also collected 11 rebounds, and made her presence known on the defensive end with three blocks and three steals. A major factor in the 77-50 win over the Scarlet Hawks, Williams' performance recently has given MMU a lift on both ends of the court.

In the AD3I, Williams is ranked eighth in points per game with 11.4, first in rebounds per game with 10.4 and leads the association in field goal percentage shooting 54.2 percent this season.

Williams and the Blue Angels have three games this week, with two on their home court. Tonight, MMU will take on Northland College (1-18) at the Bloechl Center. The game begins at 6:00 pm, live stats and video will be available at mtmaryathletics.com for those who cannot attend.
