ACAA Honors Williams

ACAA Honors Williams

MILWAUKEE – Erica Williams (So./Bloomington, Ill.) has been named the next American Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week. The sophomore forward has been a leader on both sides of the court for the Blue Angels, and now earns her first award of the 2018-19 season.

Before last week's award earning performance, Williams had collected six double-doubles this season. With every double-double coming in the form of points and rebounds, Williams is one of the most effective post players in the conference.

Although Williams' 5-7 height be slightly under the average of the NCAA forward, she is averaging the third highest rebounding total in the ACAA at 11.9 per game. The tenacity of Williams is rarely matched by opponents of any height, as a result, Williams has set a new bar for herself in 2018-19.

With a team leading 16.4 points per game and a 48.6 field goal percentage, Williams is a consistent choice on offense. The combination of the 16.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game has parlayed into Williams collecting nine double-doubles this season, a new personal record for the forward who finished with eight double-doubles in 2017-18.

Last week, Williams continued to lead her Blue Angels in both of MMU's games. Williams first posted 19 points and 14 rebounds against North Central University, then days later returned to the Bloechl Center to post 21 points and 11 rebounds against the Grace Christian University Tigers.

Williams and the Blue Angels will continue play this Sunday at the Bloechl Center. The Cardinal Strich University Wolves will cross town to take on the Blue Angels for a 2:00 pm start on Jan. Sun. 27. Live stats and video for the game can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
