Williams Earns ACAA Honors

MILWAUKEE – The American Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their first ACAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2019-20 season. Mount Mary University basketball team's Erica Williams (Jr./Bloomington, Ill.) earned the year's inaugural weekly conference award.

The Blue Angels opened up their season last weekend with their first ever tip-off tournament. Williams and her teammates first played Northland College (2-0) in a high-octane shootout at the Bloechl Center. Williams picked up right where she left off last season and recorded a double-double in the loss to the Lumberjills.

The junior forward pulled in a game high 13 rebounds and was also responsible for 22 of MMU's 64 points against Northland. Williams hit 5-of-8 from the field and sunk 12-of-18 from the charity stripe to end the game with the highest individual point total from either team.

"Erica's passion for and knowledge of the game defines her as a player," said Mount Mary University Head Basketball Coach John Baillie. "She works hard every play, inspiring her teammates when off the court and dominating the game when on it. Being player of the week acknowledges all the work she has put in and the success that will come from it."

After setting the single-season record for rebounds in a season with 245 last year, Williams continued to pull in a slew of rebounds this weekend. After grabbing 13 against Northland, Williams ripped down 14 rebounds against Blackburn in the 2019 Blue Angels Tip-Off Tournament finale. While adding six points to the team's totals, Williams also led her team in assists against the Beavers with five.

Williams is now second in the entire ACAA in rebounds with 27 in her first week of play. Williams and the Blue Angels return to action this Friday when they host North Central University at the Bloechl Center. Live stats and video for the game will be available at MtMaryAthletics.com.
