Dutch Take Rematch

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University basketball team lost to visiting Central College today by a final score of 70-39. After today's contest, the Dutch move to 7-3 on the regular season and MMU is now 3-6.

Three Blue Angels led the offense with nine points each. Erica Williams (Jr./Bloomington, Ill.) scored nine points after going 7-of-8 from the free throw line and collecting six rebounds. Rae Grubbs (Sr./Covington, Ind.) did her damage from outside hitting 2-of-6 from outside on her way to nine points.

Megan Johnson (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) lifted her team after coming off the bench in today's contest. Johnson also scored nine points after she went 3-of-6 from outside against the Dutch.

For the first four minutes of action, Mount Mary and Central kept the score even. When one team scored, the other would match in the following possession. With 5:30 left to go in the opening frame, the Dutch hit a three-pointer to start a 17-4 run to take a 23-10 lead after one quarter.

Central added to their lead in the second quarter as they continued a three-quarters court pressure defense. The Dutch forced MMU into nine second-quarter turnovers and held MMU to 3-of-10 from the field. CC hit 9-of-20 in the second as they pushed their lead to 45-17 at half.

Rae Grubbs led the third quarter off for the Blue Angels with a made three-pointer. After the quick-hitter by Grubbs, the Blue Angels kept their opponent scoreless for the next two minutes of action. MMU forced the Dutch into four third-quarter turnovers while the Blue Angels also hit 3-of-8 from outside the 3-point line. The Blue Angels finished the quarter with their highest offensive output of the night with 12 points.

In the final quarter of the night, the Blue Angels outscored their opponent 10-9. MMU hit 3-of-12 from the field and 2-of-7 from outside. On defense, MMU limited the Dutch and forced Central to shot 3-of-19 from the field; all three field goals for CC in the fourth quarter were three-pointers.

Of the 10 points scored by the Blue Angels in the final frame, seven came from the bench. Megan Johnson (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) led the offense in the quarter by hitting 2-of-3 from three-point territory.

The Blue Angels will take a quick break from the regular season as the student-athletes prepare for the final exams coming next week. After the week of tests, the Blue Angels will return to the Bloechl Center Tue. Dec. 17 to host longtime rival Alverno College.
