Lakers Late Lead Wins

MANITOWOC, Wis. – The Holy Family College Lakers defeated the Mount Mary University basketball team by a final score of 64-53. The Blue Angels are now 4-9 on the season and the Lakers move to 3-13.

Erica Williams (Jr./Bloomington, Ill.) led the Blue Angels on offense and on the boards against the Lakers. Williams recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a team high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Williams hit 8-of-14 from the floor on her way to a her highest point total of 2020; Williams 2019-20 season high is 24 points against Illinois Tech.

Teammates Melissa Golo (So./Boise, Idaho) and Lucy Pavelko (Sr./Muskego, Wis.) helped the starting scoring effort for the Blue Angels as well. Golo went 4-of-7 from the field on her way to nine points. Pavelko went 2-of-3 from the field and 3-of-6 from the field for eight points. Pavelko, along with Williams, grabbed a pair of steals in the contest against the Lakers.

Both teams traded buckets in the first quarter. The Blue Angels made an early surge against the Lakers when they took a 14-8 lead midway through the opening frame. Holy Family responded by hitting three-point field goals in back-to-back possesions. After the tie at 14, the two teams continued to trade momentum throughout the quarter.

Once the Lakers swelled up their lead early in the second quarter, the Blue Angels came right back. With little to no separation in the quarter the Lakers were able to take the slightest lead going into the locker rooms at halftime, 27-26.

The teams continued to trade baskets in the third quarter. Again, the Blue Angels chipped away at the slight lead by the Lakers. Following the third, Holy Family was able to add two more points to their overall lead outscoring MMU 17-15.

The Lakers took the momentum in the fourth quarter on their way to Holy Family's third victory of the season. HFC outscored the Blue Angels 24-13 in the final quarter as they took the 68-54 victory.
