Falcons Capture Win

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Mount Mary University basketball team lost to the host University of Wisconsin River Falls Falcons tonight at the Don Page Arena. The Falcons took an 18-point lead at halftime and went on to win 83-68.

"The team showed great character down the stretch," added Mount Mary University Head Basketball Coach John Baillie. "It will get us ready for conference play."

Junior forward Erica Williams (Bloomington, Ill.) led the offense against the Falcons after going 10-13 from the field. Williams tallied 20 points and eight rebounds in Friday's contest.

Teammates Lucy Pavelko (Sr./Muskego, Wis.) and Deovian Young (So./Milwaukee, Wis.) each scored 12 points in MMU's game against the Falcons. Pavelko went 4-of-5 from the field, 1-of-1 from outside the three-point line and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line to lead MMU's bench.

In just her second official game for the Blue Angels, Deovian Young scored her twelve points when she finished 4-of-9 from the field. In addition to a three pointer and a 3-of-4 performance from the line, Young ended with her biggest offensive night since joining the Blue Angels.

The Falcons slowly went out in front in the early portion of the first quarter. UWRF went on to hit 6-of-13 from the field and held MMU to just 4-of-11 from the field. The Blue Angels were able to hit steadily from the free throw line as they went 4-of-5 in the first, the Falcons edged out the lead in the first after they went 7-of-11 from the line.

MMU got their offense going in the second quarter when they went 53.8 percent from the field. The Falcons were able to take a lead in the quarter, however, by hitting 3-of-4 from outside and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Blue Angels turned the tables on offense. During the third quarter, the Blue Angels hit 60 percent from the field and had their highest offensive output of the night with 20 points. While the Blue Angels were also able to hold the Falcons to 38.1 percent from the field, they were able to cut the deficit 16 points by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

In the final frame of the night, the Blue Angels went on to add 18 points. They were able to limit the Falcons again in the final quarter, but UWRF held on for the 83-68 win.
