Blue Angels Golf Preview 2015-16

For the first time in Mount Mary history, an intercollegiate golf team will begin play. Blue Angels golf begins tomorrow, and the season filled with firsts has Blue Angels fans excited of what is to come.

The new team consists of a good mix of talent. Some newcomers, but luckily some veterans from other Blue Angels sports will be there to help the rest of the roster with the transition into D III collegiate athletics. Sydney Dahlstrom (Sr./Marquette, Mich.) and Michelle Argenzio (Sr./Brookfield, Wis.) will be the savvy NCAA veterans that help steer the ship and calm the nerves of the underclassmen. Dahlstrom in her second year with MMU tennis, and Argenzio who just finished her third season with MMU softball this last fall.

Head golf coach Marc Heidorf, "It's a new experience for us, and another sign of the progress we are making." As both coach and Athletic Director for Mount Mary University, it is very exciting, a new sport is beginning. And the dawn of a new sport shows the consistent growth of MMU and creates more opportunities for student-athletes.

"I think team wise we want to come together and help each other out." Coach Heidorf went on to talk about the ability for not only the coach to teach, but for leaders amongst the team to step up and steer the team in the right direction. Check out the full interview.

The first event has the Blue Angels matched up against their crosstown rivals Alverno. The Inferno have a relatively new golf program themselves, starting in 2013, the team has had incremental success in each season. The young teams should provide a good matchup for the Blue Angels birth into NCAA DIII golf.

The season begins Sept 4 at 1:00 pm as Alverno plays host at Greenfield Park Golf Course. Right after that, the Blue Angels will turn around and host the Inferno at what the MMU will call home for 2015-16, Currie Park Golf Course. That rematch will be on Sept 6 with the tee time starting at 9:00 am.
